Create Your Own Masterpiece with FENDI Baguette DIY Needlepoint Kit

Posted in Fendi, Handbags & Accessories with tags , , , , , , , , on March 17, 2010 by Alan + Mei-Mei the pug

OMG! this is just too cool! You can create your own unique one of the kind Fendi Baguette! But I don’t think I’d have the guts to sew or draw on a thousand dollar bag, but it’s such a great idea!

Every time I attempt to pull a “Martha Stewart” moment thinking I can be like a domestic diva like her turning an ugly flea market find junk into a paper-mache chandelier, it’s always a miserably failure. So needless to say, I haven’t been brave enough to attempt or having a thought to decorate my own FENDI Baguette!

So, of course, when I saw Fendi’s new Baguette Needlepoint Stitch Kit, designed by Silvia Venturini FENDI, I’m just not sure I can do it. Initially, I was excited like a little kid at the candy store! The bright colorful packaging box! It was luring me into this FENDI fantasy world like a whirling cotton candy machine that tells me, yes buy me! Buy me! And, then, I saw the contents of the box – and that’s when my rainbow sparkling, unicorn flying, Fendi-wonderland bubble bursted & face the reality.

Inside the box, you’ll find a basic canvas baguette, filled with color threads of every color in the rainbow, and instructions on how you can embroider your very own bag using needlepoint. HELLO! I will be a nervous wreck & so afraid if I make a boo-boo, then my $995 FENDI Baguette will be ruin! Also for this price, they better come already beaded, embroidered and ready to use! This is not the first time FENDI has come up with a “Do it yourself” bag, just about an year ago FENDI has a similar bag that’s made of white color canvas and came with 10 permanent pantone markers so you can create your own “Masterpiece”

But I have to say, it is a charming idea that FENDI has came up with this D.I.Y. Baguette Needlepoint Kit! And for those of you who are brave enough to do it yourself, more power to you! and I bow to your courage! Haha

If you are interested to get one of this fabulous D.I.Y. FENDI Baguette Needle Point Kit, it’s available at
Neiman Marcus.com Also at Net-A-Porter.com (UK store)

Until next time, be well & look fabulous!

The Magic of Fashion Illustrations & My Favorite Illustrators – Rene Gruau & Alfredo Cabrera

Posted in Dior with tags , , , , , on March 13, 2010 by Alan + Mei-Mei the pug

It’s another cold spring night in San Francisco bay area, as I am relaxing on my sofa, sipping some hot Jasmine pearl tea from my favorite Le Palais des Thés, I was flipping through some of the art books I’ve collected since I was a fashion student at Parson School of Design back in 1992 in New York City, there I came across a book of my favorite fashion illustrator Rene Gruau.

Before the adobe photoshop, illustrators and other computer art programs, a fashion illustrator is the key person to translate a designer’s vision from the runway to the general public! To me, Rene Gruau was the greatest fashion illustrator! With his trademark use of his powerful minimal lines, a gash of bright lips or a wash of color, Gruau’s style combined seductive sophistication with classic beauty, grace and sensual elegance. He had captured the spirit of haute couture & the glory days of Parisian high fashion with his pen and brushes.

Rene Gruau was born in Italy in 1909. In the 1940‘s and 50‘s Gruau became a favorite of the haute couture world, working with Femina, Marie-Claire, L’Officiel, L’Album Du Figaro and other “high-style” magazines. Some of Gruau’s best work can be seen in the dramatic visual statements he rendered for Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Elsa Schiaparelli, and Hubert de Givenchy. In 1948 Rene Gruau left for the United States to work for Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue, before becoming the exclusive artist for FLAIR. He also produced stunningly beautiful advertisements for the LIDO, MOULIN ROUGE and BEMBERG. His illustrations had totally influence on modern day fashion advertising and photography.

After enjoying Gruau’s beautiful illustration book, it reminded me to check out the blog (Mamie N Baby) from another one of my favorite fashion illustrator, Alfredo Cabrera. He is a seasoned fashion designer whom had designed for Geoffrey Beene, Polo Ralph Lauren, Victor Alfaro also had lend his talented fashion illustration skills to ad campaigns & window displays to Henri Bendel, Missoni, Gianfranco Ferre, Tommy Hilfiger, Hollister and many more famous fashion houses.

I love how “free” and “easy” the lines flows in his illustrations! The women in his sketches all has this effortless high fashion elegance feel to it and translate glamour in a casual and approachable way that you can totally relate to!

He currently an Asst. Professor at Parsons School of Design teaching the lucky few students how to draw beautiful fashion illustrations and his long anticipated book “ 101 Things I Learned in Fashion School” with Matthew Frederick will be release on May 20th, 2010. I can’t wait to get a copy of this book!! It’s now ready for pre-order from Barnes & Noble – Click here or Amazon.com – Click here. If you are into fashion illustrations, then this is a must-have book for you!

I hope you enjoy these beautiful illustrations as much I do and inspire you to pick up a pencil and start sketching! Oh! don’t forget to visit & subscribe to Alfredo Cabrera’s blog! Click here to visit his fabulous “Mamie N Baby” & enjoy his fashion illustrations.

Until next time, be well & look fabulous!

Aviation Jacket Rugged Chic – Burberry Prorsum Fall Winter 2010 Collection

Posted in Burberry, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on February 27, 2010 by Alan + Mei-Mei the pug

I am so excited about Burberry Prorsum’s Fall-Winter 2010 collection that was just show at London on February 23rd, 2010. The creative director Christopher Bailey has blown us away with a show that’s packed with fabulous outfits & accessories! Christopher was inspired by the aviation jackets & uniform’s shape & details. He expressed his creativities but still stay firm to the spirits & traditions of this 154 years old fashion house.

Since the year of 1956, Burberry has a casual yet “upper-class” chic, old money yet downtown cool kind of clientele. By combining the chunky aviation style jackets long & short version with tons of hardware details like buckles, rivets, belting, and mix the proportions of chunky coats vs. tight skinny pants or boots or hard & rugged materials like leather with fragile lace & silk charmeuse. It offers a kind of sexiness that’s not trying too hard but still attention grabbing!

What makes it even more cool about this new collection, it’s not just a beautiful fashion show then everyone just go home, it combines the runway presentations, communications & selling all together! It was globally live-streamed & viewed in 3-D by clusters of invited guests in New York, Tokyo, Los Angeles, and Dubai. Also what’s super awesome & clever in this case, is the simultaneous pre-selling of the clothes on the runway! And for three days (Feb 23rd ~ Feb 26th) you can go to Burberry.com to pre-order one of these fabulous runway pieces and you will receive your order by May 2010 the latest! So go to Burberry.com now to pick your favorites! I am ordering mine right now! And here is the jacket I am ordering:

Cropped Oversized Peacoat with Funnel Collar $3995

Military Doeskin Aviator Double Collar Coat $4995

To end this posting, here is the live streamed video that was watched all over the world on Feb 23rd, 2010

Don’t forget, rush to Burberry.com to pre-order your favorite coats & accessories!

Until next time, be well and look fabulous!

Posted in Gucci with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on February 26, 2010 by Alan + Mei-Mei the pug

Ever since the fashion genius Tom Ford transformed Gucci from traditional old money chic (sometimes a little boring) to this ultra glam, rock star, trend-setting fashion house; their fashion accessories & handbags has capture our attention season after season.

I just LOVE this clutch from their spring-summer 2010 collection! Minimalist chic, sleek & clean lines also it’s bigger than the usual clutch size ( Gurl! admit it! may of you are like me, we all have some extra “Baggages” mmmkay?! a little pea size clutch ain’t gonna fit all my stuff ! haha)

GUCCI Sigrid Oversize Clutch
(Available @ Saksfifthavenue.com & Gucci.com)

This fabulous clutch comes in glossy white or black patent leather. The shine from the patent leather makes it perfect for going out with the girls for drinks in the city, and the larger size of this bag also makes it a bit casual that can be use during the day! I just LOVE the asymmetrical flap closure with the super chic metal & enamel detailing! The asymmetry of the flap gives just a hint of a geometric feel without being too avan garde.

This oversized clutch measures 15.25″ W x 6.25″ H x 1″ D, it will go with all of the outfits in your closet & adds a touch of “Uptown chic & Downtown cool” look to any looks!

Gothic Chic & Dark Glamour

Posted in Chanel, D.L. & Co., Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Ferragamo, Gothic Chic & Dark Glamour, Haute Couture, Jean Paul Gaultier, Salvatore Ferragamo, Valentino, Versace with tags , , , , , , , on January 17, 2010 by Alan + Mei-Mei the pug

As a fashion designer, I’m inspired by many things around me. The imagery of a photo, scenery, sounds & musics, movies… just about everything! In recent conversations with a good friend of mine on facebook about “Goth” and it inspired me to google some imageries and articles about this mysterious & fascinating lifestyle which has inspired many arts & fashions.

So what is “Goth”? in simple definitions: To some, Goth is a style of dressing; to others it’s a lifestyle. Either way, the gothic look involves very black clothing and very white makeup with edgy, tough accessories. Prime example of classic gothic style: Musician – Marilyn Mansion. But as a person with an inquiring mind ( yes I do read the trashy gossip enquirer magazine ok! Haha) I know it has to be deeper than just the black clothing, smoky eye make-ups and of course ever so dreamy vampire Robert Pattinson aka “Edward Cullen” from the hit movie “Twilight”.

So after some googling, according to Goth.net

“Most Goths become Goths because they have been spurned by ‘normal’ society because the way they want to live their lives does not fit in with how most people are told to live theirs. Goths are free thinkers, people who do not accept the moral rules of society because they’re told ‘This is just how it is’ or ‘This is what God says!’. Rather Goths tend to listen to what you have to say, and make up their own mind..”

But of course this is not the case for all Goths. Many Goths today are Goths for a variety of other reasons. They like the music, or the clubs are better, they have Goth friends and joined in with them, or they just like staying up late nights and Goths are the only ones awake to talk to.

To us the fashionistas, the theme “Goth” has inspired many fashion designers over the years and here are some of the collections I think are super fabulous & go with our topic perfectly!

Junya Watanabe

Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2005

Rick Owens Fall 2006 Collection

When John Galliano was traveling south to research his couture collection during summer of 2005 he was inspired with the French Revolution stories & history, so in Dior’s Spring 2006 Couture show, blood- and gore-spattered drama was the theme and to me, it’s also very “Goth Glam” ,too!

Christian Dior 2006 Spring Haute Couture

Harper’s Bazaar Magazine October 2009 & Film Maker Tim Burton

As if Tim Burton’s characters all got together and did a fashion photoshoot, this amazing pictorial for the October edition of Harper’s Bazaar features characters from his past movies like The Night Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice and more, all look amazing in designer clothing and shoes.

Versace Haute Couture

Comme des Garçons Coat (Left) – Salvatore Ferragamo Jacket (Right)

Dolce & Gabbana

CHANEL

Alexander McQueen

Valentino

Givenchy

And for our male readers, me & mei-mei the pug didn’t forgot about you! Here are some fabulous menswear from Ann Demeulemeester Fall – Winter 2009 Collection for you! I just LOVE that chunky sweater in the middle

Of course how can we end this “Dark Glamorous” posting without mentioning one of my favorite designer Alexander McQueen!

Alexander McQueen 2007 Fall & Winter

In this collection, McQueen had put a heartfelt personal passion into a collection that was based on a startling revelation from his family history. His mother, who traces family trees, discovered that her bloodline leads back to a victim of the Salem witch trials who was hanged in the Puritan hysteria of 1692. The themes of witchcraft, paganism, and religious persecution played on the dark and angry side of McQueen’s creativity.

Here is a video of Alexander McQueen 2007 Fall & Winter totally fabulously spooky fashion show

All of you must be wondering ….how can I achieve that beautiful vampy smoky eye make-up to complete your Gothic Chic outfits & accessories?! So we have found 2 tutorials for our gal & dudes readers! Here is the female smoky eyes tutorials that shows you how to do it!

And here is the “Guyliner” smoky eyes tutorial
